Edward J. Rohling
CEO & Founder, TRC Hotel Advisors LLC
Ed Rohling opened the TRC Hotel Advisors office in continental Europe in June of 2015. TRC is pursuing acquisitions in markets with recovering demand growth and limited new supply growth. This is a return to Europe after he founded TRC Hotel Advisors in France in 1998 to partner in hotel acquisitions with private equity firms. He advised one of the worlds’ largest PE firms in a purchase of 50 hotels in six European countries.
The previous 16 years he was a general partner of a hotel owner-operator that grew from one hotel to a hundred and listed on the NYSE as Bristol Hotels & Resorts in 1995.
In the US, Mr. Rohling was CEO of Lodgian Corp (LGN, AMEX). Lodgian was one of the largest (70 hotels, 15,000 rooms) owners and operators of hotels in the United States.
For four years prior to Lodgian, he advised Apollo Real Estate Advisors as an operating partner responsible for a 4,000 room distressed hotel investment. After the economic crisis in 2008, Mr. Rohling advised hedge funds, institutional investors, international banks and special servicers holding troubled hotel loans.
With over 30 years in the hospitality industry focused on the hotel owners’ needs, Mr. Rohling has navigated numerous cycles from the hotel overbuilding of the eighties to the hotel IPO’s of the 90’s to the post 911 challenges and the recent credit crisis. He has interfaced between the macro hotel environment and financial and operating realities to maximize hotel real estate value.
Prior to Bristol, Mr. Rohling spent five years with the Marriott Corporation. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He and his wife Donna are involved with a charitable foundation assisting young children in a Nairobi, Kenya slum find hope and reason to pursue their education as an exit from poverty.
