Twenty years’ experience in the hotel and real estate sectors. For eleven years he covered Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), supporting the expansion of Marriott International’s (MI) fifteen brands, for hundreds of projects, across the region in the role of Vice President Development Planning. During this time the company doubled its presence in Europe and become one of the largest hotel companies in the Middle East and Africa.
Since September 2015, Jonathan has been charged with creating and delivering new industry focused courses in Hotel Asset Management (HAM) and Hotel Planning and Development, as a Senior Lecturer, for Ecole Hoteliere Lausanne in Switzerland. Over 1,000 students completed the first ever Hotel Asset Management course for Europe and courses in Hotel Development & Planning.
He is now the Chairman and Owner of HoCoSo (http://www.hocoso.com) – a Swiss-based company providing solutions for hospitality industry, with a focus on investment, development, asset management and advisory services within the extended-stay hotel and serviced apartment sectors in Europe; hotel development and investment in Africa; and student and executive hospitality education globally. He brings together teams of global experts to suit a client’s needs.
Personally, he was the lead for a two-year project which brought about the tailor-made extended-stay Residence Inn by Marriott concept to Europe in 2008. He was instrumental in the subsequent roll-out of the Residence Inn by Marriott portfolio across Europe and the Middle East, including the now open projects in Edinburgh, Munich, Sarajevo, Bahrain and Kuwait. He also delivered the company’s first ever comprehensive development strategy, across 55 countries, for the African continent.
A speaker at international conferences, he was on the Serviced Apartment Advisory Board of the British Hotel Association during 2014-15, and was on the advisory committee which created the Serviced Apartment Charter for the UK.
During his career, Jonathan has been engaged on portfolio and individual hotel acquisitions in the US (with Arthur Andersen) and Europe (with Deloitte), renovations, extensions, re-brandings, contract extensions and terminations and created strategic development road maps for the African Continent, and countries and cities across EMEA.
He holds an Executive MBA from the Kellogg School of Management.
For several years he was a Student Mentor for the MSc Real Estate students from Reading University in the UK.
He started his career in Operations with Forte Hotels in the UK.
