Partner, DLA Piper
Matthew Duncombe is a partner in DLA Piper’s International Hospitality and Leisure practice.
Matt is described as “a star” and “hugely impressive” by his clients. His practice is focused on franchise and management agreement deals within the global hotel sector. Matt has advised on both franchise and management structures (both for owners, operators and other interested parties) for all the major operators across a number of different jurisdictions and has assisted a variety of clients with drafting template hotel management agreements and associated arrangements. Having come from a non-real estate background he takes a pragmatic and solutions orientated approach to hotel contracts. Matt has also advised a number of the newer entrants to the market on how they structure their lodging and guest offering, leverage technology and manage risk.
Matt also has extensive experience in advising hotel clients on the wide variety of operational issues that arise from the operation of a hotel, from data privacy and cyber issues through to technology, food and beverage outsourcing (including a number of “individual” Michelin star restaurants as well as more mainstream product offerings) and other operational matters such as golf tournaments and sponsorship, events and conferencing and, of course, relationships with OTA’s and other intermediaries.
Matt has produced a number of thought leadership pieces within the hotel industry and is a regular attendee and contributor to industry events across Europe.
