Pieter van Tilburg
Founder and Manager, CityHub
During his Masters in Entrepreneurship and New Business Venturing at Rotterdam School of Management, Pieter founded CityHub together with a university friend. From scratch, they started building a hospitality concept around the desires and wishes of the travellers of generation Y. It took them about 7 years to develop and fine-tune the concept until they opened their first full-glory hotel location in Amsterdam in 2015. These years involved a lot of bootstrapping in the development of their sleeping-unit (Hub) and IT systems, a lot of pitching and promoting to get the right partners on board and an endless lobby to find the right building and the support of the authorities. Before opening the first real location, CityHub was put to test in a pilot location with only four Hubs in the apartment of Pieter’s business partner. This turned out to be a great success and proved the potential of the concept. During the evolution of CityHub Pieter assisted in the development of another successful unique hotel location in Amsterdam, called VolksHotel, where he worked side by side with the owner and initiator of the hotel, from the moment of acquiring the building until the opening of the hotel.
With an average occupancy of 98% and room rates that are 40% higher than projected, CityHub Amsterdam has further proven its success. CityHub aims to revolutionize the hospitality industry and create a strong brand for the travel-savvy Generation Y. With a second location coming up in Rotterdam (The Netherlands), CityHub has now set out to roll out its concept worldwide.
